DIY bath bombs with toy surprise

We have a fun project the whole family can enjoy while you sit back and collect some fun points from your little ones: DIY bath bombs with a toy inside.

Each surprise bath bomb looks like an ordinary bath bomb, but when they dissolve in the bath, your little one is surprised with a cute toy inside. The fun part is choosing the surprise toy: dinosaurs, animals, race cars, rings – anything small!

With this recipe, you'll get approximately 6-8 bath bombs when using a standard bath bomb mold, but feel free to use whichever mold you prefer.

Supplies you'll need:

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 1 cup Epsom Salts
  • 1 cup citric acid
  • Essential oils
  • Mica powder
  • Witch hazel - in a spray bottle
  • Olive oil spray
  • Toy of your choosing

Tools you'll need:

  • Bath bomb molds
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cup
  • Fork

Instructions:

    • Mix the baking soda, citric acid, and Epsom salts until well combined. Pro-tip: If you want to make more than one color of bath bombs, divide the mixture between 2 (or more) mixing bowls.
    • Add about 10 drops of essential oils to bowl(s)and use a fork to blend your mixture.
    • Add about 1 tsp of mica to the bowl(s) and stir until color is well combined. Pro-tip: The color will darken more after adding the witch hazel to the mix.
    • Spray the mixture with witch hazel and use your hands to mix. Keep spraying and mixing until you get to a point where it's starting to clump but is still dry. Make sure it's not too wet or sticky; if not, it will expand, making it difficult to set correctly.
    • Spray your bath bomb molds with olive oil spray. Then press your bath bomb mixture down into your bath bomb mold, leaving space for the hidden toy surprise.
  • Add your toy, then cover it with more bath bomb mixture. Fill the other half of the mold with the mixture and spray both halves lightly with witch hazel.
    • Press the halves together and allow the bath bombs to sit for about an hour, then carefully remove them from the molds and set them out to cure.
    •  Let them cure overnight or for 24 hours or until they're entirely hardened.

Pop one bath bomb into your little one's next bath time and enjoy!
