Does Lemi Shine Kill the Coronavirus?
What is COVID-19?
Covid-19 is a disease caused by a virus strain known as SARS-COV-2. This virus strain has been classified as an “emerging pathogen” by the EPA.
Does Lemi Shine kill SARS-COV-2?
Lemi Shine Wipes and Multisurface Antibacterial cleaners are tested and proven virucidals, meaning they have been tested and proven to kill multiple strains of viruses, such as Influenza strains, Herpes, RSV, Rhinovirus when used in accordance with product instructions on hard, nonporous surfaces. Lemi Shine has not been tested against any strains of the Coronavirus, including SARS-COV-2.
When will Lemi Shine have a claim against SARS-COV-2?
esting will require weeks, if not months of planning and preparation in order to perform testing and submit to the EPA. Once received by the EPA, it is unclear how long it will take to update a master label claim. There are specific guidelines for stating emerging pathogen claims on labels and in consumer communication. We’re checking in on what the requirement is here to meet.
Also worthy of noting, ONLY a laboratory with a safety level of BSL-3 is able to handle this pathogen. Our current lab has a facility available, however is putting the safety of their employees first and have made a stance to not test this pathogen due to the lack of definitive information available.
Until more information is available, we are unable to provide a date of certainty. Lemi Shine is committed to helping consumers and we are working to continue to understand and seek options available to test against this new strain. We are applying for the Emerging Pathogen exception and should have results back in a few days. However, as we can all imagine the EPA is being inundated with these requests and we are hustling to the front of the line as fast as we can.
